  • The command in verse 6 is to ‘humble yourselves’. What are some things that God uses to humble you? Are there things that have happened to you that have humbled you? Read Romans 12:16.

  • Jesus is our example in humility (Phil. 2:3-8). Define humility. Do you see yourself as you should?

  • What kinds of things do you worry about? Do you cast ALL your cares upon him? Or just the big things? He cares for all your needs. Pray today and trust him with whatever is weighing on you…big or small.

  • Read Philippians 4:6-7. What requests do you need to make known to God this week?

  • Peter tells us to entrust ourselves to the One who judges justly (2v23) and to our faithful Creator (4v19). Listen to Bigger Than I Thought by Passion Worship.

  • What are some other names for the devil (Matt. 9:34; 1 Jn 5:19; 1 Thess. 3:5; John. 8:44; 12:31; 2 Cor 4:4; 11:14; Eph 2:2; 6:16; Rev 12:10)?

  • What are some ways the devil gains a foothold in your life (Eph. 4:27)? Do you have unresolved anger or bitterness? Do you struggle with pride or self-pity? Confess those things to the Lord.

  • What are some ways the devil seeks to devour us?

  • Do you know someone who the devil has devoured? Pray for that person’s restoration now and thank God for his grace in saving us from sin.

  • Have you identified patterns of sin (besetting sins) in your life? What do you need to do to interrupt those habits and put that sin to death?

  • Are you aware of how other believers in your local assembly are suffering?

  • Take a moment to read and pray for persecuted believers:  https://releaseinternational.org/persecution-watch

  • Self-pity is the expression of a wounded pride. Do you struggle with self-pity or playing the victim? The solution to self-pity is humility. Humble yourself and put your pride to death!

  • Why is God called “The God of all grace”?  Suffering (1 Pet. 5:9) and temptation (1 Cor. 10:13) are common to all of us.  In what ways do we need God’s grace to meet both?

  • The kiss of love (v14) is the Christian greeting. How do you greet people? With love, tenderness and affection or with something else?  Do you have peace in your life? How can you get it (Phil 4:6-7)?
