In what way does loving your spouse sacrificially help you to abstain from the passions which war against your soul (1 Pet. 2:11)? How does your spouse help you fight sin? How can you help your spouse fight their sin?
Is your marriage something that would cause non-believers to wonder what makes you different? Is it something that could be part of seeing them glorify God?
Read Eph. 5:18-29. There is to be mutual submission within a marriage (v21) and within that, wives are to submit to husbands (v22) and husbands are to sacrificially love their wives (v25).
Husbands: Loving the Church cost Christ his life, what does loving your wife cost you? Wives: do you submit to your husband gladly and willingly, as to the Lord?
Submission within marriage is ultimately about partnership and teamwork. How is your team doing?
Does a marriage outside the faith create conflict in the home?
Is divorce an option for the Christian, with an unbelieving spouse? (1 Cor 7:12-14) What if the non-Christian leaves?
Do you tend to try to change your spouse with words/debate/wearing them down or by pure and respectful conduct?
Can women wear jewellery, fix their hair, wear nice clothes? What should not come from these things?
Read 1 Tim. 4:7-8; 6:6-10. Do you spend more time/effort/money on training the inner or the outer man?
Read Matt. 12:28-30 and Philippians 2:3-7. Jesus is our example of what it means to have a gentle and quiet spirit. Are you like Jesus in this respect?
In what ways is a woman weaker than a man? Is she stronger in any ways?
Is she made in the image of God (Gen 1:26-27)? Is there an eternal distinction in heaven (Gal 3:26-29)?
Is there a difference in role in the family & in the church between men and women?
How well do you understand your wife? Does she feel treasured? Ask her! And take her answer at face value because God says he only gives good gifts (Jam. 1:17).
How have you honoured your spouse recently?
What can you do to build up your spouse this week?
Read Matt. 4:23-24; 6:14-15. How is the connection between our vertical relationship with God and our horizontal relationships with others described?
What is the key for men to have their prayers answered?
